cTrader Trading Journal: Sign In Once, Journal Every Trade
1 October 2026 · By The Pips Project team · 5 min read
cTrader traders often end up journaling by exporting history to a spreadsheet, which works until the first busy week. A cTrader trading journal that connects to your account directly removes that step: you sign in once and your trades keep arriving.
How the cTrader connection works
cTrader has an official way for apps to read your account: you sign in on cTrader's own page and grant read-only access. The app receives an access token, never your password, and you can revoke it at any time from the journal or from cTrader.
- In The Pips Project, open Settings, Auto-sync, choose the journal account and then cTrader.
- Sign in with your cTrader ID on cTrader's page and allow read-only access.
- Your cTrader trading account is linked to that journal account, and its trades start arriving.
Trades sync once a day by themselves, and whenever you press Sync now. Disconnect any time; the trades already synced stay in your journal.
What to review for a cTrader account
- Spread and commission. On ECN-style cTrader accounts the commission is a real part of every trade. Journal it, or your win rate will look better than your account.
- Your stop discipline. Compare planned risk with what you actually lost on losing trades. A gap means stops are being moved or skipped.
- Sessions. Many traders are profitable in one session and give it back in another. The Insights tab splits your results by session and weekday.
Prop firms on cTrader
Several prop firms offer cTrader accounts. Their rules are the same kind as on MetaTrader: a daily loss limit on the firm's clock and a maximum drawdown. Add the account with its firm and the Risk tab tracks both. Read how the limits work before your next challenge.
No cTrader connection yet? You can still import a cTrader history export on any plan. Auto-sync is part of Pro.
