MT5 Trading Journal with Auto-Sync: Journal Every MetaTrader 5 Trade Automatically
29 September 2026 · By The Pips Project team · 6 min read
MetaTrader 5 keeps a perfect record of every trade you take, and almost nobody reviews it, because the history tab is built for accounting, not learning. An MT5 trading journal with auto-sync turns that record into something you can actually study, without copying a single row.
Why manual MT5 journaling fails
- It happens at the end of the day, when you are tired and least honest about the trade.
- Losing days are the ones you skip, which are exactly the ones that hold the lesson.
- Details go missing: the stop you moved, the commission and swap, the exact entry time.
What auto-sync should capture
Every closed trade with its symbol, direction, size, entry and exit prices and times, stop and target, commission and swap. Your balance and equity over time, so drawdown is measured on the real account. And ideally the market around each trade, so you can replay it later.
How it works in The Pips Project
On Windows: the sync app
- Download the sync app, unzip it to a folder you will keep, and open PipsSyncAgent.exe once.
- In Settings, Auto-sync, choose MetaTrader 5 on Windows and enter your account number, password and server. Use your broker's read-only investor password where it offers one.
- The app runs quietly in the background and starts with Windows. It syncs when it starts, whenever you press Sync now, and every few minutes while you have trades open.
Your MetaTrader login happens on your own computer. Your password is stored encrypted and is only ever sent back to your own paired computer, never used from our servers.
On Mac or Linux: the MetaTrader 5 plugin
Choose MetaTrader 5 plugin in Settings, Auto-sync and follow the setup guide; it runs inside the terminal.
What you get once trades flow in
- Replay of each trade on your broker's one-minute candles and bid/ask ticks (how replay works).
- An AI review of each trade on planning, execution and management.
- Insights by session, symbol, weekday and setup, so you see where your edge really is.
- Prop-firm limits tracked live on your firm's own trading day (how the limits work).
Auto-sync is part of Pro. On the free plan you can import MT5 history from an HTML or CSV export and journal up to 100 trades.
